Welcome! Today we begin our new homeschool year. While last year's first day filled me with an adrenaline filled sense of panic (being it was my first year), this year's first day has me filled with excitement and anticipation. This year I am excited about the POSSIBILITIES. Like any other first day of school, a new year is a clean slate....a chance to make things better wrapped up in a feeling of "anything is possible". This is especially true when your homeschool includes children with special needs. I find myself so excited about what this new school year can bring for Sean and Timothy in the areas of independence, reading, and their overall knowledge of the world. I have set specific goals for them, broke them down into smaller steps and now am excited to see how far we can go on these....working together.
My wish for you as you start your own new homeschool year is this: set goals, work together, laugh together, enjoy the journey, remember that you never get these little years back, patience-patience-patience, Rome was not built in a day, never underestimate the value of reading your kids a good book and may you turn every day of this homeschool journey into your own wonderland...and if you need some inspiration, remember that if there is a child in your home, then someone's childhood is happening in your home, and that makes your home (and your homeschool) a pretty magical place!
Hi, I just ran across your blog as I was googling for homeschool ideas for special needs children. I have 3 children total with one that is special needs. I'm working with a few other families and we have started a homeschool coop group this fall. I can totally relate to your adrenaline rush from PANIC! I have felt sooo over my head. Thanks for the encouraging words on this post. I'm looking forward to reading more about what you do.
ReplyDeleteI was told the first year is the hardest and I would not say it was "hard" but that I did not always know the best or should I say easiest way to accomplish all I wanted to accomplish. With this new year starting, I already have alot of my organization and "systems" in place and I know what works best for which child. Homeschooling is not for all families, but for my two boys with special needs who were floundering in a wrong placement in the public school system, it has been a blessing. be sure and check out the index on the lower right of my blog...you can pull up posts ranging on a variety of topics from regulations, to therapies, to home activity suggestions. God bless you as you travel your own homeschool journey. Remember, your homeschool is not "school at home"...your homeschool is a wonderland!
