Equal opportunities

Timothy and Coach Teri
Timothy, one of my twins who has special needs, got the opportunity to try ice skating this month.  The girls take lessons weekly and turns out one of the coaches where they go has years of special olympics experience.  I am thrilled that Tim gets a chance to try something new.  If your homeschooler has special needs, be sure and seek out extra curricular activities for them. You may be surprised what you may find and/or who may be happy to work with your child!

  1. Hi. My name is Candy Buffenbarger and I found your blog and few weeks ago and have been lurking and thought today is the day...I'll comment!:) That's so great for your son to get to try something new. I'm so happy for him now is his twin ready to try? I'm too scared to ice skate so kudos to them and you for being brave:). My daughter Lizzy has verbal apraxia and she's 3 and taking speech twice a week. I found your blog in part by looking for things to help her. I would really like to home school her in order to teach her in a warm Christian environment but we're concerned that would slow her speech even more. So I was wondering what you as a pathologist and a home schooling mom would think about keeping an apraxic child at home. Thank you so much for having this blog it helps so many more people than you know!

  2. Hi Candy, I am so sorry it took me a few days to reply to your comment! (our dog had puppies and that was all consuming for a few days and I was not on the PC much)...Thank you for stopping by and thank you for your kind words about my blog. When I started homeschooling the kids three years ago; especially the boys, there just wasn't much positive in cyberspace about homeschooling children with special needs and I wanted to be a place where people could come to get encouragement and realistic ideas...not projects with 1000 steps or that took hours, but things they could do daily. Please comment with your email so that I may write you directly about your question about homeschooling and apraxia. I wish you best of luck and hope you will stop by. and please stop by my kitchen blog...I am having a giveaway right now for a new cookbook and kitchen towel ( www.wonderland-kitchen.blogspot.com ). my email is homeschoolfam@gmail.com Blessings to you and your family! katie
