Homeschool Mothers Journal...
In my life this week...
I have been so busy that I don't know if I found a rope or lost my horse. My husband is a CPA and it is tax season so I am, in a way, single parenting from Jan 15 to Apr 18 this year. Also, in my life this week, a close friend shared with me that their son had been diagnosed with autism. Since I am a speech language pathologist, she had alot of questions. It is so important to share our talents and our TIME and support each other!
In our homeschool this week...
Wrapping up our February units, which included Cookies and St. Valentine. The cookie unit also coincided with Girl Scout cookie time so that worked out nicely.
Places we're going and people we're seeing...
After a hard week of everyone getting their chores and homework done, two of my kiddos are headed to see Gnomeo and Juliet this morning. We do the morning shows for the matinee prices, and take advantage of the cups you can buy and get free refills all year long. Today, I will also put $25 on our renewable movie gift card. that will pay for the tickets plus leave extra for next time and by doing so we will score a free popcorn.
If you lost track, that will be movies for 3 people, plus drinks plus popcorn for $16.50. The only thing better is going to the $2.00 theatre near our house, but they don't have Gnomeo...
My favorite thing this week was...
My son Timothy, who has severe special needs due to lack of oxygen at birth, excelling in his ice skating lesson and really feeling like he is participating in a sport. Good exercise and big smiles. It was a wonderful moment.
What's working/not working for us...
I am lucky to have a husband that for most of the year can share the duties of taxiing children to extra curricular activities. However, now that tax season has started I am doing all of the ferrying to and from the ballet school, skating rink, girl scouts and church class.
What is working for us is me having a homeschool bag at the ready that is already packed with books, worksheets, activities and such that I can take with us as we are taking kids to different activities and use this while we are waiting for said activities to be over. Why didn't I think of this before???
Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...
My daughter is homeschooled and alot of her friends are public schooled. Even her very close friends who we are friends with the family have not ivited her to birthday parties this year with the reason being "well, we had to invite the whole school class so, so and so could not invite Audrey even though they really wanted to". But these same families want to know when HER party is and that their child is excited to go. How do you handle this? We are taking the stance that you have to invite our child in order to score an invite to our parties (and our parties are known in our circle to be really good...)

This is a wonderful homeschool planning site. This blog is full of pre-planned unit studies including printable worksheets, activities, craft ideas, and more.

My DH is a CPA too! (Don't forget the Sept & Oct deadlines!) I drop off my typical 14yo ds with my 7 1/2 yo ds with ASD at the movies so I can have time with my girls (11 & 13). (Thank goodness I didn't have to see "Yogi Bear!") My teen does it for the popcorn! I like your blog.
