Sisters, Scouts, and Swaps

Charlotte will be starting a Kindergarten curriculum this fall and will get to join Girl Scouts as a Daisy. She can't wait. In the meantime, how wonderful that she has a big sister that includes her in activities like this one--making swaps for a Daisy swap meet that was held this past month.

SWAPS, otherwise known as "Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere" are a fun girl scout tradition. Traded at girl scout events, they are pins made by the girl scout, and the level of difficulty of the SWAP should reflect the girls being able to do as much of it themselves as possible. Audrey decided to make a Smore swap and we found the materials we needed at Michaels Craft Store. Here's the how to:

Mom helped with two parts...
I cut the foam for the "cracker" (tan foam) and "chocolate" (dark brown foam) for her with my quiliting rotary cutter which saved so much time over doing it with scissors. and I wrote for her what she wanted her SWAP to say since the space was so little. They all said  that her troop was "S'more fun!". The girls did the rest!

The girls used regular craft glue to glue the "chocolate" to the "cracker".

They used my mini glue dots from my scrapbooking supplies to put the eyes on the foam marshmallow.

We bought a small jar of craft/scrapbooking flowers and spread them out and layered some of them.

They also used glue dots to put these flower "hats" on their little Smore man...

They glued the foal marshmallow to the "chocolate" and then once dry, Audrey drew on their faces. We then let them sit overnight.

The next morning, Audrey placed all the pins on the bottom. I highly reccomend these pins that come with an adhesive strip that you just peel and stick!

She was pleased to find out that her "Marshmallow Man" was one of the more popular swaps the girls were seeking at the meeting and she literally had a line of girls wanting to swap with her. She was so proud! Here she is after the swapping, wearing all her swaps she received on her bucket hat.
I love seeing all the different swaps made. Always proves that you do not have to spend much money (or even be very crafty) to make a cute swap. If you want to learn more about girl scout swapping, click here.  If you want to see examples of other cute swaps you can make click here,  here or here!

Happy Spring,

Katie

  4. Stephanie, you are so sweet but I am far from perfect! My days get crazy busy, as you can imagine, so I do most of my blogging on my wensite either at night (like now) or early in the morning during my "before the kids are awake coffee time". I love homeschooling and taking care of my busybees.

  5. What a great idea! I have a Daisy too, and we're getting ready to do craft our first swaps! What did you use for the marshmallow? I missed that somewhere, I think.
